View approved original text

This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial) or mixed dyslipidemia. It is primarily used as an adjunct to dietary therapy and can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, especially in patients with dyslipidemia. This drug is used alongside appropriate diet therapy when diet alone is insufficient. Before use, secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary. It is important to periodically check total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels during treatment. This drug helps reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease associated with hypercholesterolemia and is used in the treatment of dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication can rarely cause serious muscle problems, so patients should inform their doctor immediately if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs. If muscle problems worsen, it may affect kidney function, so discontinuation or temporary halt of treatment is necessary if there is kidney disease or risk factors present. This drug can affect liver function, so it should not be used if there is liver disease or abnormally high liver enzyme levels. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception. The risk of myopathy may increase when taken with certain drugs, so patients using other medications should consult their doctor or pharmacist. Dizziness or fatigue may occur during treatment, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Safety in children has not been established, so it is not recommended. Older adults should use this medication carefully due to a higher likelihood of muscle problems. Regular liver function and muscle-related tests are recommended during treatment, and immediate consultation with medical staff is advised if any abnormal symptoms occur.
