This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It serves as an adjunct to dietary measures in cases where non-pharmacological approaches such as dietary restrictions on saturated fats and cholesterol intake are inadequate. In patients at high risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, treatment should take multiple risk factors into account. Additionally, it is important to check for secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, before using this medication and to treat them if necessary. Regular lipid tests are needed to assess total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels, and lipid levels must be promptly checked in cases of acute coronary events. Along with this management, this medication effectively improves dyslipidemia.

Precautions

There have been reports of a rare side effect called rhabdomyolysis, which can cause serious muscle problems with this medication. Due to the risk of rapidly deteriorating kidney function due to such muscle issues, patients who are very ill from infections, surgery, or trauma should temporarily stop or discontinue this medication. Patients with known allergies to any of this medication's components or those with active liver disease, muscle disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients taking certain antiviral medications should not take this medication. Furthermore, patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Alcoholics, patients with a history of liver disease, those with poor kidney function or hypothyroidism, patients with a family history of muscle diseases, and elderly patients aged 70 and over should use this medication cautiously. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, or fever occur during treatment, patients should inform their doctor immediately, and blood tests may be needed to check for muscle damage if necessary. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly before and during treatment, and if liver enzyme levels rise significantly, the medication may need to be discontinued. This medication interacts with many other drugs, so patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist of any other medications they are taking. Special caution is required when taking medications that affect liver metabolism or those that impact the muscles. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not use this medication, and women of childbearing age should take appropriate contraceptive measures while on this medication. This medication is not recommended for children, and caution is advised for the elderly due to a higher risk of muscle abnormalities. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be based on symptoms, with careful monitoring of liver function and muscle status. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it is best not to transfer it to another container.
