This medication helps improve blood cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It particularly lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing the levels of good HDL cholesterol. This effect should be achieved in conjunction with dietary management, and is used in cases where non-drug interventions such as lifestyle changes and exercise are insufficient. It is also important to identify and treat other causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, and liver disease, before using this medication. Blood lipid tests are essential for evaluating and managing treatment outcomes, and it is especially recommended to check lipid levels upon admission for patients with acute coronary events. This medication is used to reduce cardiovascular risk associated with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication lowers blood cholesterol levels and helps prevent cardiovascular diseases. Before taking this medication, if severe muscle pain, muscle weakness, or any muscle-related symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. Particular caution is needed as rare side effects such as severe myopathy or rhabdomyolysis can occur. Do not use this medication if liver function is impaired or if there is a history of liver disease, and periodic liver function tests should be performed. This medication is not administered to pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and to nursing mothers. Consult a physician before use in those with a history of alcohol dependence or liver disease, decreased kidney function, hypothyroidism, and in the elderly, and dosage adjustment may be necessary if needed. Interactions may occur when taken with other medications, so inform the healthcare provider of any current medications being taken. In particular, when used concomitantly with specific antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, immunosuppressants, and fibrate drugs, the risk of muscle side effects may increase. While taking this medication, symptoms such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, hypertension, diabetes, and others may occur, and if abnormal symptoms persist, inform healthcare personnel. Caution is necessary as dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery. It is not recommended for children as safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so prompt treatment at a medical facility should be sought, and liver function and muscle enzyme levels should be monitored. Store this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to other containers.
