This medication is primarily used for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, specifically heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia. It also helps to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with mixed dyslipidemia. This medication decreases total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, and increases HDL cholesterol. It is important to administer alongside an appropriate diet for effective treatment, and to confirm whether there is dyslipidemia due to other conditions or medications before use. Additionally, patients with cardiovascular risk factors require particular caution. This medication plays a significant role in the treatment of dyslipidemia, improving blood lipid levels.

Precautions

This medication has been reported to cause rare side effects such as rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to severe muscle damage. Patients at risk for decreased renal function due to acute infections, surgery, or trauma may need to temporarily stop or discontinue this medication. This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to certain ingredients, those with severely impaired liver function, patients with muscle disorders, women who are pregnant or nursing, and patients taking specific antiviral medications. Additionally, caution is required in patients with alcohol dependence, those with moderate or severe liver impairment, patients with weakened kidney function, those with hypothyroidism, patients with a family history of muscle disorders, and elderly patients over 70 years old due to the high risk of muscle damage. If symptoms such as myalgia, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, fatigue, fever, etc., occur during treatment, the doctor should be notified immediately, and treatment should be discontinued if necessary. Liver function abnormalities can also occur, thus liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and the medication should be discontinued immediately if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice arise. This medication interacts with many other drugs, so caution is needed when taken with specific antibiotics, antiviral medications, immunosuppressants, and fibrate drugs, and dosage adjustments or co-administration should be based on a doctor's instructions. Women of childbearing age should ensure appropriate contraception to avoid pregnancy while taking this medication, and should discontinue use immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Symptoms such as dizziness or headaches may occur, requiring caution during driving or operating machinery. This medication has not been established as safe and effective in children, and caution is warranted in the elderly due to the risk of muscle damage. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote; treatment should be symptom-based, and liver function and muscle enzyme tests should be conducted to monitor the condition.
