Improvement of lipids by reduction of cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and increase of HDL
This medication helps regulate blood cholesterol and related lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly heterozygous familial and non-familial forms, as well as mixed dyslipidemia. It lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol while raising HDL cholesterol levels known as 'good cholesterol', contributing to cardiovascular health improvement. Additionally, this medication is used as an adjunct when non-pharmacological treatments with appropriate dietary management are not sufficiently effective. It's important to identify and treat other secondary causes like diabetes and hypothyroidism before treatment, and regular lipid tests should be conducted during therapy to monitor the condition. This medication is especially effective when there is a high risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases and is used for the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, this medication aids in the health management of dyslipidemia patients and improves the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This medication is taken once daily without regard to food. For primary hypercholesterolemia, a dosage range of 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily is used, with the recommended initial dose being 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day. Patients requiring a more significant reduction in LDL cholesterol may adjust the dosage. After initiating therapy or adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks.
Serious side effects such as rhabdomyolysis, which can cause severe muscle damage, have been reported for this medication. Therefore, if serious muscle pain or weakness occurs, it should be immediately reported to a doctor. This medication should be temporarily discontinued or stopped in patients with poor kidney function, serious infections, hypotension, or after major surgery. Patients with allergies to any of the components, active liver diseases, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not use this medication. Patients with muscle disease or those taking Glecaprevir and Pibrentasvir should also refrain from using this medication. Caution is also needed for alcoholics, patients with impaired liver function, patients at risk of certain myopathies, elderly patients, and those taking fibrate class medications. During the course of treatment with this medication, liver function tests and muscle-related tests should be conducted regularly, and if there are liver function abnormalities or worsening muscle pain, it should be discussed with a doctor immediately. This medication has many interactions with other drugs, so dosage adjustment or cessation may be necessary when taken with specific antibiotics, antivirals, cyclosporine, or fibrate class drugs. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it may pose risks to the fetus and baby. Safety in children has not been established; therefore, it is not recommended for children. Elderly individuals should also be cautious due to the increased risk of myopathy. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and treatment should be based on symptoms while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. It is advised to keep this medication out of reach of children and not to transfer it to another container.
