Improvement of lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and reduction of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is particularly helpful for controlling lipid levels in patients with an increased risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease. This drug is used in conjunction with dietary therapy when dietary modifications or other non-pharmacological treatments do not provide sufficient effect. Additionally, it is important to identify and treat any secondary causes of hyperlipidemia prior to drug administration. Lipid tests should also be conducted to accurately assess cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Overall, this drug is effectively used for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg per day. A starting dose of either 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg per day is recommended. For patients requiring further reduction in LDL cholesterol, the dose may be adjusted. After initiating treatment or adjusting the dosage, lipid levels in the blood should be checked at intervals of more than 2 weeks before making further adjustments.
This medication can rarely cause damage to muscle tissue, leading to severe myopathy and renal dysfunction, so if muscle pain or weakness occurs, it is important to inform a physician immediately. Additionally, this medication can affect liver function, so liver function tests should be conducted before administration and liver function should be regularly monitored during treatment. Patients with an allergy to any component of this drug, those with active liver disease, muscle disease, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers should not take this medication. Particularly, patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, elderly patients, or those with poor renal function should be more cautious when using this medication. This drug can interact with other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist, and dosage adjustments or cessation of administration may be necessary when used in conjunction with certain antibiotics, antivirals, and immunosuppressants. Be cautious as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking this medication. If symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, fever, etc., occur during the course of this medication, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals immediately, and if liver dysfunction or severe skin reactions are suspected, the administration should be stopped, and a medical facility should be visited. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to administer it to them. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment and supportive care should be administered based on the symptoms, and liver function and muscle enzyme levels should be monitored.
