This drug helps lower high total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and improves serum apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels. It also effectively increases HDL cholesterol levels, which positively impacts cardiovascular health. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it may be used as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments or administered when existing treatments are not effective. This drug should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet, and it is important to monitor lipid levels regularly and adjust treatment based on the patient's condition. Identifying and treating secondary causes of dyslipidemia is also essential. Overall, this drug is effectively used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This drug is used to lower levels of cholesterol in the blood. As muscle-related abnormalities may occur, if severe muscle pain or weakness appears, consult a doctor immediately. Patients with serious infections, hypotension, after major surgery, trauma, or metabolic disorders may need to temporarily stop using this medication. Patients with poor liver function or a history of liver disease should not use this medication. Also, it should not be administered to those allergic to this drug or with muscle disorders, pregnant or nursing women, or patients taking certain antiviral medications. Patients with alcohol dependence or liver dysfunction, the elderly, and those with decreased kidney function should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Additionally, the risk of muscle abnormalities may increase when combined with other lipid-lowering drugs or certain antibiotics and antivirals, so a consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication may affect liver function, requiring regular monitoring of liver function tests before and during treatment. Immediate consultation with a physician is required if symptoms of liver dysfunction (fatigue, nausea, vomiting, etc.) occur. Blood sugar levels may rise during the use of this drug; however, since the prevention of vascular disease is more important, it is advisable not to discontinue treatment. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication and should use appropriate contraceptive methods while taking it. Nursing women should also avoid taking this drug. Symptoms such as dizziness or muscle pain may occur, thus caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; supportive treatment according to symptoms is necessary, and monitoring of liver function and muscle status should be conducted.
