Treatment for improvement of lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and dyslipidemia, and reduction of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease
This medicine is used to manage cholesterol and lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It helps to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglyceride, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, thereby improving vascular health. This medication is administered alongside an appropriate diet, used as an adjunct if dietary changes alone are insufficient. It is also important to identify and treat secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, before starting treatment. This medication helps to reduce risk factors for atherosclerotic vascular disease and improve cardiovascular health.
This medication is administered once a day without regard to meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg per day. A starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg is recommended. If greater reductions in LDL cholesterol are needed, dosages may be adjusted. After initiation of treatment or dosage adjustment, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 2 weeks to adjust the dosage accordingly.
This medication may pose a risk of muscle problems; therefore, if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness arise, you should notify your doctor immediately. Serious myopathy or rhabdomyolysis may occur, so caution is needed in patients with such symptoms or poor kidney function. Those with a history of liver disease, severe alcohol addiction, elderly patients, and patients with hypothyroidism should also use with caution and be particularly vigilant when taking other medications that may elevate drug concentrations. This medication may affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be performed before and during administration, and if symptoms of liver dysfunction arise, consult your doctor immediately. Blood glucose levels may rise, so patients at risk for diabetes should manage their blood sugar closely. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication and should practice adequate contraception while on it. Additionally, caution is required as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery. Interactions with other medications may occur while taking this drug; therefore, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you are taking, particularly when taking certain antibiotics, antiviral agents, anticoagulants, and fibrates. Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients and it is not recommended.
