Improvement of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication effectively lowers total cholesterol, bad LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It also helps increase good HDL cholesterol levels, improving cardiovascular health. It is a medication that supports better management of blood lipids in conjunction with dietary therapy. It is used for individuals who need cholesterol control and plays a significant role in lowering cardiovascular risk. Therefore, it is effectively used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
For adults, the usual initial dose of Pitavastatin Calcium is 1-2 mg once daily. If the lowering effect of LDL cholesterol is not sufficient, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 4 mg per day. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or more based on LDL cholesterol level, treatment goals, and patient response.
This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to specific components. It should also not be administered to those with active liver disease or persistent unknown causes of liver enzyme elevation. Individuals with severe liver impairment or problems with bile flow, as well as those taking the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, should not take this medication. Patients with myopathy or women who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or breastfeeding should also avoid using this medication. Additionally, the safety of this medication in children has not been established, and there is no experience with its use. Individuals with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take it either. Patients with impaired kidney function should be cautious when using this medication in conjunction with certain lipid-lowering agents or niacin, as there is a risk of muscle damage and worsening kidney function. Those with liver function issues or excessive alcohol consumption should also use this medication with caution, as it may worsen liver function. Individuals with hypothyroidism or genetic muscle disorders, and the elderly, are at a higher risk of adverse reactions and should be monitored closely. Patients with severe muscle weakness may experience exacerbation of symptoms while using this medication. This medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, rash, and elevated liver enzymes. If muscle pain or weakness, or elevated muscle damage markers are detected in blood tests, the use of this medication should be immediately discontinued. If symptoms of liver dysfunction, thrombocytopenia, or allergic reactions occur, administration should be stopped and a doctor consulted. Rarely, symptoms of the central nervous system, gastrointestinal symptoms, blood abnormalities, or changes in kidney function may occur. This medication is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, so it is advisable to undergo sufficient testing before administration and to combine it with dietary and exercise therapies. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood lipid levels and liver function tests is necessary, and if it is not effective, administration should be discontinued. Patients with weak liver function should start at a lower dosage, and particular attention should be paid to muscle-related adverse reactions when increasing the dosage. This medication has interactions with certain drugs, so co-administration with cyclosporine, fibrate medications, and niacin should be avoided due to an increased risk of muscle damage and worsening kidney function. When taken with cholestyramine, absorption may be inhibited, so an adequate interval between doses should be maintained. Elderly patients may more easily experience adverse reactions due to decreased body function, so they should be observed closely and dosage adjusted as necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication as it can be harmful to the fetus and infant, and if pregnancy is confirmed, administration should be stopped immediately. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it should not be used.
