This medication is used in combination with dietary management and exercise therapy to help control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, but if blood glucose control is difficult, it may be used in combination with metformin or sulfonylureas. It may also be used in conjunction with insulin therapy, and if blood glucose control is insufficient despite the use of multiple medications, this drug can be added to enhance glycemic control effects. In other words, it is effectively used to improve blood glucose control at various stages of therapy.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or other components. It should also not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is required when used with other medications that may cause hypoglycemia. Especially, when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Experience with this medication in patients with heart failure is limited, thus it should be administered with caution. Acute pancreatitis may occur, so if there is persistent severe abdominal pain, the medication should be stopped immediately and a physician should be consulted. Skin conditions such as bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if blisters or lesions develop on the skin, healthcare personnel should be notified immediately. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur during treatment with this medication, so symptoms should be monitored and appropriate actions should be taken if necessary. Use is not recommended for pregnant women, and caution is needed for those who are breastfeeding. Use is not recommended for children under 10 years of age, and safety and efficacy have been limitedly confirmed for adolescents over 10 years of age. Elderly patients can use this medication without special dosage adjustments. Patients with diminished renal or liver function may also use this medication without dosage adjustments, but it is advisable to monitor their condition periodically. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so gastrointestinal decontamination and supportive care should be initiated based on symptoms. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and transferring it to another container should be avoided to maintain quality and safety.

Hives, angioedema, pancreatitis, bullous pemphigoid, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, asthma attacks, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), sudden and severe headache, seizures, confusion, vision disturbances, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output, severe generalized edema with accompanying hypertension, heart failure, severe hypoglycemia, severe allergic reactions, severe edema or abdominal swelling
