This medication helps to improve symptoms of digestive dysfunction caused by esophageal reflux and hiatal hernia, inflammation and ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, such as abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting. It also alleviates discomfort in the intestines due to irritable bowel syndrome and spastic colon. In children, it is effective for habitual vomiting and non-infectious gastrointestinal dysfunction, such as symptoms like constipation or diarrhea, and is also used for improving agitation or sleep disorders. This medication comprehensively treats various gastrointestinal problems, contributing to symptom relief for patients.
Trimebutine maleate 100-200 mg is taken orally three times a day before meals. Dosage may be adjusted appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication contains lactose, so it should not be used by individuals who cannot properly digest lactose. For example, people with galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency, or those with genetic issues such as glucose and galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal issues may occur, though rarely, such as constipation or diarrhea, gas sounds in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, dry mouth, or a numb feeling in the mouth. Additionally, symptoms of a rapid heartbeat may occur rarely, and neurological symptoms such as fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, and headaches can occasionally appear. This medication may affect liver function, potentially leading to elevated liver enzyme test results. Allergic reactions may cause symptoms like skin rashes, so if such symptoms appear, medication should be discontinued. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently confirmed, so if pregnant or potentially pregnant, the benefits of taking the medication should outweigh the risks. For breastfeeding women, the safety of this medication is also uncertain, hence it is recommended to avoid taking it if possible, and if necessary, to stop breastfeeding.
