Treatment of insomnia
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
The lowest effective dose of this medicine should be used. The recommended daily dose for adults is 1mg. The dose may be increased to 2-3mg if clinically necessary. Because this medicine may impair driving or other activities requiring full alertness on the day after taking it, take it once immediately before bedtime, allowing at least 7-8 hours between taking the medicine and waking. Do not exceed the recommended dose of 3mg; take it once immediately before bedtime. For elderly or debilitated patients, do not exceed 2mg per day. For patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, do not exceed 2mg per day (see Interactions). For patients taking central nervous system depressants, dose adjustment may be necessary because of the possibility of additive effects. Taking this medicine with a high-fat/high-calorie meal or immediately after a meal is expected to slow its absorption and reduce its effect on sleep latency.

Precautions

This medication has a central nervous system depressant effect which may cause drowsiness or behavioral impairment the next day after taking. Especially, when taken in high doses or in conjunction with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol, these symptoms may worsen, so caution is advised. It is recommended to wait a sufficient amount of time after taking this medication before performing dangerous tasks such as driving or operating machinery. Additionally, if insomnia is not relieved during the use of this medication, there may be other underlying conditions that require medical evaluation. Rarely, swelling of the tongue or throat can cause breathing difficulty, so if these symptoms occur, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately. Complex sleep behaviors, such as driving or eating while asleep, may occur, so please inform your doctor if such symptoms arise. This medication carries a risk of abuse and dependence, so it should be taken at the minimum dosage and duration as directed by a physician. It should be taken immediately before bedtime, as taking it while awake may result in memory impairment or hallucinations. This medication should not be used in children under 18 years of age, patients with acute respiratory failure, or patients with certain genetic disorders. Elderly or frail patients are at higher risk of side effects, so the dosage should be reduced, and caution is also needed in cases of impaired liver or kidney function. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before using this medication. In case of overdose, serious central nervous system depression may occur, therefore the prescribed dosage must be adhered to, and if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
