Improvement of blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy or when metformin monotherapy is insufficient. It may also be used as a replacement for the combination therapy of linagliptin and metformin, or in cases where the combination of maximum tolerated metformin and sulfonylurea is ineffective. Additionally, it may be given with insulin when blood sugar control is inadequate, as well as in conjunction with empagliflozin when combination therapy with metformin and empagliflozin is insufficient. This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in various combination therapy scenarios.
The dosage of this medication should not exceed the maximum recommended doses of linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg, given twice daily, and should be determined considering each patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability. This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If not currently being treated with metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and can be titrated to 2.5/1000 mg.
This medication contains metformin and linagliptin, which are diabetes treatments that help control blood sugar. Caution is required as serious metabolic complications, such as lactic acidosis, may occur while taking this medication. Lactic acidosis is rare but requires immediate treatment if symptoms arise. Do not take this medication in the following cases: allergy to its ingredients, type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal impairment, acute renal failure, severe liver impairment, acute alcohol intoxication, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding. This medication may pose risks for patients with impaired kidney function, so regular kidney function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Special caution is needed for elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function. When taken with other diabetes medications that pose a risk of hypoglycemia (such as sulfonylureas and insulin), hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so blood sugar levels should be closely monitored. This medication should be administered cautiously to patients with serious conditions such as acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, severe infections, and dehydration, and immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if such conditions occur. Before and after surgery or radiological iodine contrast examinations, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after kidney function is restored. Side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur during treatment, and vitamin B12 deficiency may arise, so checking vitamin levels during long-term use is advised. Rare side effects like acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if severe abdominal pain or skin abnormalities appear, consult a physician immediately. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid this medication, and it is also recommended not to take it while breastfeeding. This medication is not recommended for children under 10 years of age, and safety and efficacy in pediatric and adolescent patients aged 10 years and older have not been established. In case of overdose, the risk of lactic acidosis increases, and immediate treatment in a hospital is necessary. Blood dialysis treatment may be required if necessary. Store this medication out of reach of children and protect it from moisture and direct sunlight.
