This medication is used for patients with hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The usual adult dosage is one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once a day. Dosages exceeding losartan potassium 100 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day are not preferable. Patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with either losartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy may start treatment with losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once a day.

Child dose

There is no experience in using this medication for children and adolescents (under 18 years), so it should not be administered.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it or any of its components, have severely impaired kidney or liver function, are pregnant or potentially pregnant, or have specific electrolyte abnormalities. Use this medication with caution if you have low blood pressure or kidney problems, liver disease, or specific autoimmune diseases, as there may be an increased risk of skin cancer, and care should be taken to limit sun exposure. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias may occur; contact medical personnel immediately. Serious side effects

  • Urticaria, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness
  • Difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor
  • Severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/eye mucosal pain
  • Shortness of breath or breathing difficulty, asthmatic attacks, cough with fever accompanying respiratory issues
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound lethargy
  • Sudden severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, vision abnormalities, paralysis
  • Decreased urine output

Mild side effects

  • General: Abdominal pain, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, malaise, fever, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, lethargy
  • Cardiovascular: Palpitations, angina, arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary atrioventricular block
  • Gastrointestinal: Loss of appetite, constipation, dental pain, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea
  • Musculoskeletal: Lumbar pain, arm pain, joint pain, arthritis

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a container that blocks light. It is also important to store it at a temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.
