Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, and in patients who have not previously received medication for diabetes and find it difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy, it may be combined with metformin. Additionally, it is used when monotherapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones or insulin is not sufficient for blood sugar control. In cases where multiple medications do not provide adequate control, this medication can be added to improve blood sugar management. In summary, this medication is effective in enhancing blood sugar control either alone or in combination with various diabetes medications.
The recommended dose of this medication is 100 mg once daily for either monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate between 45 and 60), no dosage adjustment is necessary. For patients with moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate between 30 and 45), the dose should be adjusted to 50 mg once daily. For patients with moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate between 15 and 30)
This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes, and certain precautions should be taken while taking it. First, it is important to be aware that serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, breathlessness, or swelling of the face or neck appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical advice should be sought. There are also reports of serious side effects such as acute pancreatitis, a condition in which the pancreas becomes inflamed, so any symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea should be reported to a physician right away. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or those experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components should avoid taking it. Patients with decreased kidney function need dosage adjustments, so regular kidney function tests should be performed, and doses may be adjusted as necessary. Patients in clinical trials who took this medication most commonly reported side effects such as upper respiratory infections, headache, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, with an increased risk of hypoglycemia when taken together with insulin or sulfonylureas. When using this medication with other blood sugar-lowering agents, dosage adjustments may be necessary to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. Additionally, rare side effects such as severe joint pain or blister-like pemphigoid have been reported, and if these symptoms appear, consultation with a physician should be sought immediately. Pregnant or nursing women are advised against using this medication as its safety has not been established. In case of overdose, standard emergency procedures should be followed, and since this medication can be partially removed by hemodialysis, dialysis may be considered in cases of toxicity. This medication has relatively few drug interactions, but caution is required when taking certain medications, so all current medications should be disclosed to the medical staff. Finally, elderly patients are more likely to have decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustments and monitoring of kidney function are important.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in an airtight container and kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage helps maintain the efficacy of the medication.
