Summary

Main use
Treatment of insomnia
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Use the lowest effective dose of this medicine. The recommended daily dose for adults is 1mg. If clinically necessary, the dose may be increased to 2-3mg. Because taking this medicine may impair driving or other activities that require full alertness the following day, take it once immediately before bedtime, allowing at least 7-8 hours between taking the medicine and waking up. Do not exceed the recommended dose of 3mg; take once immediately before bedtime. For elderly or debilitated patients, do not exceed 2mg daily. For patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, do not exceed 2mg daily (see Interactions). For patients taking central nervous system depressants, dose adjustment may be necessary because of the potential for additive effects. Taking this medicine with a high-fat/high-calorie meal or immediately after a meal is expected to slow its absorption and reduce its effect on sleep latency.

How to take

Precautions

This drug acts as a central nervous system depressant and may cause drowsiness or behavioral disturbances after use. Symptoms may become more severe when taken in high doses or in combination with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol, so caution is advised. Be careful when engaging in hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery the next day after taking this medication. This drug should be taken just before bedtime, and adequate sleep time should be ensured before going to sleep. If insomnia symptoms persist for more than 7-10 days, consult a healthcare professional to check for other underlying conditions. Rarely, patients who take this drug for the first time or continue to take it may experience severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the tongue, vocal cords, or larynx, and difficulty breathing. If these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and seek emergency treatment. Additionally, abnormal changes in behavior, hallucinations, aggressiveness, and complex sleep-related behaviors such as sleep-driving may occur while taking this medication, so if these symptoms arise, notify a healthcare professional immediately. This medication has the potential for abuse and dependence, so special caution is necessary for patients with a history of mental illness or substance abuse. Elderly or frail patients are more sensitive to this medication, so dosing should be initiated at a lower level and closely monitored. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, or those with depression should also use caution when taking this drug. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with a healthcare professional regarding potential effects on the fetus or newborn, as there is insufficient information available. This medication is not to be used in children under 18 years of age. Serious symptoms such as impaired consciousness and respiratory depression may occur in case of overdose, so dosage must be strictly adhered to, and in the event of an overdose, a hospital should be visited immediately. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to maintain its quality.
