Summary

Main use
Treatment of insomnia
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Use the lowest effective dose of this medicine. The recommended daily dose for adults is 1mg. If clinically necessary, the dose may be increased to 2-3mg. Because taking this medicine may impair driving or other activities that require full alertness the following day, take it once immediately before bedtime, allowing at least 7-8 hours between taking the medicine and waking up. Do not exceed the recommended dose of 3mg; take once immediately before bedtime. For elderly or debilitated patients, do not exceed 2mg daily. For patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, do not exceed 2mg daily (see Interactions). For patients taking central nervous system depressants, dose adjustment may be necessary because of the potential for additive effects. Taking this medicine with a high-fat/high-calorie meal or immediately after a meal is expected to slow its absorption and reduce its effect on sleep latency.

How to take

Precautions

This medication acts as a central nervous system depressant, which may cause drowsiness or impaired behavior the next day after taking it; therefore, care should be taken when performing hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery, especially when taking a high dose. Additionally, taking it with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol may enhance its effects, hence co-administration should be avoided or the dosage adjusted. If insomnia persists or worsens, there may be other physical or mental disorders, thus a physician's evaluation should be sought. If swelling occurs in the tongue, throat, larynx, or serious allergic reactions such as breathing difficulties, nausea, or vomiting arise while taking this medication, stop taking it immediately and seek emergency treatment. During treatment, abnormal behavioral changes may occur, such as aggression, hallucinations, or actions done while asleep such as driving or eating without memory of those actions; if such symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. This medication may lead to abuse and dependence, so it is essential to strictly follow the prescribed dosage and regimen, particularly for patients with a history of drug abuse. The medication should be taken just before sleep, and taking it while awake may lead to side effects such as memory impairment or dizziness. This medication should not be administered to individuals with certain diseases, children under 18, pregnant women, or patients with severe respiratory diseases, and the dosage should be reduced and used cautiously in elderly or frail patients. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, or those taking specific medications, may need dose adjustments, and must consult a physician. In cases of overdose, a decrease in consciousness or a coma may occur, so the dosage should be strictly adhered to, and if any abnormal symptoms appear, an immediate visit to a medical institution is required. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in its original container to prevent misuse or deterioration of quality.
