This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in adults at high risk of deficiency due to malabsorption, maintaining bone health and improving issues related to deficiency.

How it is given

Adult administration

Use as prescribed by a physician, adjusting dosage according to blood levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D. In adults, administer 300,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection, ensuring the annual dosage does not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.

Precautions

This medicine contains vitamin D, so to avoid overdose, it is important to check the total vitamin D content when taking other medications or fortified foods that contain vitamin D. Calcium levels in blood and urine should be regularly monitored, and should be stopped if they become too high. Particularly in cases of high calcium intake, consistent monitoring of serum and urine calcium levels is important. When using ampoule injections, be careful to avoid glass fragments while opening, especially when administering to children or the elderly. This medication should not be used by patients with allergies to its components, hypercalcemia, kidney stones, renal dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While taking this medication, various side effects such as headache, fatigue, myalgia, digestive issues, thirst, increased urination, elevated blood pressure, and kidney problems may occur, so consult a doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. For patients with vitamin D deficiency, regular monitoring of blood vitamin D levels is necessary to maintain the appropriate dosage. Elderly patients or those taking certain medications should frequently check renal function and adjust the dose if needed. There may be interactions with other medications, so inform your doctor if you are taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, anticoagulants, etc. This medication should not be used during pregnancy, as prolonged hypercalcemia may be harmful to the fetus.
