This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in bone health, and improving deficiency helps maintain healthy bones. Through these effects, it may reduce the risk of bone-related diseases such as osteoporosis. Therefore, this drug is used effectively to improve issues caused by vitamin D deficiency.

Adult administration

Administer 200,000 IU of colecalciferol by intramuscular injection. Ensure the annual dose does not exceed 600,000 IU of colecalciferol.

Precautions

This medication is a type of vitamin D, and to avoid overdose, it is important to check the total vitamin D intake when taking other medications or fortified foods that contain vitamin D. Blood calcium levels should be monitored regularly, and if calcium levels become too high, the medication should be discontinued. If calcium intake is high, it is crucial to periodically observe calcium levels in the blood and urine. This medication should not be used in certain patients, including those with allergies, hypercalcemia, kidney stones, kidney disease, limited mobility, specific disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Taking this medication can cause various side effects such as headache, fatigue, muscle pain, indigestion, dehydration, elevated blood pressure, kidney issues, arrhythmia, skin rashes, etc., so consult a doctor immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur. It is especially important to periodically check blood vitamin D levels, and dosage adjustments or discontinuation may be necessary if kidney function declines. There may be interactions with other medications; therefore, caution is needed when taking it together with anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, anticoagulants, etc. During pregnancy, overdose can be harmful to the fetus, so it should not be used, and its safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 12 years of age.
