This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary and physical exercise regimens to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications to enhance effectiveness, thereby effectively managing blood sugar levels.

How to take

Adult dose

In monotherapy or combination therapy, take 20 mg once daily. Can be taken irrespective of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to certain components. It is not suitable for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, coma, or type 1 diabetes, and it is advisable not to use this medication when insulin treatment is necessary. Caution should be exercised in patients with serious infections, those undergoing surgery, or patients who have sustained significant trauma, as insulin treatment may be required. The safety of this medication has not been established in patients with severely impaired liver function; caution is necessary. In patients with mild to moderate heart failure, it should be used with caution, and it is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Patients at risk for hypoglycemia, such as those with pituitary or adrenal insufficiency, malnutrition, irregular eating habits, intense exercise, or excessive alcohol consumption, should use this medication cautiously. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or intestinal obstruction should also exercise caution. This medication is not recommended for patients with QT interval prolongation related to arrhythmias. Acute pancreatitis symptoms may appear; if abdominal pain or vomiting persists, consult a healthcare professional immediately. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, immediate action such as consuming sugar-containing foods is necessary. When performing tasks requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, be cautious of hypoglycemia symptoms. Rarely, bullous pemphigoid-like reactions with blisters or erosions may occur; if any skin abnormalities arise, contact a doctor immediately. Use of this medication is not recommended during pregnancy, and careful consideration should be given to its use while breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients may have decreased physiological function; thus, they should be monitored closely while taking this medication. In cases of overdose, gastro-intestinal methods should be employed to eliminate the drug, and ECG monitoring should be performed to assess conditions, with additional treatment provided as necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, liver dysfunction (elevated AST (GOT), ALT (GPT)), interstitial pneumonia, pemphigoid-like reactions, acute pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, severe edema, respiratory distress, chest discomfort, cerebral infarction, hepatic coma, suspected acute pancreatitis symptoms (persistent severe abdominal pain and vomiting), bullous pemphigoid-like reactions, severe allergic reactions, chest pain, respiratory distress, severe skin adverse reactions, renal and urinary issues
