Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to enhance blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may be administered alone or in combination with other medications as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy. This helps effectively manage blood sugar and aids in diabetes treatment.
When used alone or in combination therapy, the recommended dose of this medication is 20 mg once daily. It can be taken without regard to meals.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. It is inappropriate for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, coma, or type 1 diabetes, and should not be administered to these patients. Patients with severe infections, preoperative or postoperative conditions, or severe trauma may require insulin therapy instead, so caution is advised. The safety of this medication has not been established in patients with severely impaired liver function, so it should be used cautiously. In some patients with heart failure, experience with this medication is limited, so it should be used with careful monitoring. Patients receiving sulfonylureas or insulin are at risk for hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary. Patients who are malnourished, unable to eat regularly, have engaged in vigorous exercise, or have excessive alcohol consumption are at increased risk of hypoglycemia and should exercise caution. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction should also be monitored when using this medication. Patients with cardiac arrhythmias or a history of QT interval prolongation are advised to avoid this medication due to the risk of side effects. Symptoms of acute pancreatitis may appear, so if there are persistent abdominal pain or vomiting, immediate medical attention should be sought. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur while taking this medication, and appropriate measures such as sugar intake should be taken if symptoms arise. Side effects such as constipation, abdominal discomfort, liver function abnormalities, dyspnea, and skin rashes may occur, so consultation with medical personnel is advised if any abnormal symptoms occur. When taken with other diabetes medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood glucose and symptoms should be closely monitored. Use in pregnant women is not recommended, and nursing mothers should weigh the benefits and risks of using this medication while breastfeeding very carefully. In children, the safety and efficacy have not been established, so use is not recommended. In the elderly, physical function is often decreased, so careful observation while administering is required. In cases of overdose, general treatment and monitoring are needed, including ECG to check the status. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safest not to transfer it to another container. Patients should be thoroughly educated on hypoglycemic symptoms and management strategies, and caution is needed during driving or working at heights. If severe arthralgia or bullous skin diseases occur, consult a doctor immediately and discontinue use.
