Adult dose

The recommended dosage of this medication is 20 mg once daily, either as monotherapy or in combination with other therapies. It can be taken regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients for safety reasons. For example, it should not be used in patients allergic to the main ingredient or other components. It is also inappropriate for patients with type 1 diabetes or acute diabetic complications like diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with severe infections or those undergoing surgery, or with severe trauma should manage their blood sugar with insulin injections instead of this medication. Patients with severe liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously, and there is a need for careful monitoring as clinical experience is limited. Mild to moderate heart failure patients should also be cautious, and it is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Patients taking sulfonylureas or insulin should be careful due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients at high risk for hypoglycemia or with conditions that can cause hypoglycemia should proceed with caution. Examples include hormonal deficiencies, nutritional deficiencies, irregular meals, vigorous exercise, and excessive alcohol consumption. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction should also be closely monitored when using this medication. It is advisable to avoid administration in patients who may be affected by QT interval prolongation, as it can impact heart rhythm. Symptoms of acute pancreatitis may occur, so if symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting persist, immediate consultation with a specialist is required. When taking this medication, one should be well aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially if taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia increases. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, consuming food containing sugar should alleviate symptoms. The use of this medication is not recommended during pregnancy, and caution is needed while breastfeeding. Its safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been confirmed, so it is advisable not to use it in children. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, so administration should be done with careful observation of the patient's condition. In case of overdose, standard treatment along with supportive care tailored to the patient's condition is necessary, and some removal can be achieved through hemodialysis. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring to another container should be avoided to maintain quality and prevent accidents. If joint pain or skin blisters occur during treatment, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary, and discontinuation of the medication may be required.
