This medication is used to treat moderate to severe symptoms of Alzheimer-type dementia. It helps alleviate cognitive decline and memory loss for patients, thus improving their quality of daily life.

How to take

Adult dose

This drug is taken once daily just before bedtime, regardless of food intake. The initial recommended dose of Donepezil Hydrochloride is 5 mg once daily. For 4 to 6 weeks, 5 mg should be administered, after which the dosage may be increased to 10 mg based on clinical response evaluation. Patients who have taken 10 mg once daily for a minimum of 3 months may receive 23 mg once daily. It can be divided or crushed.

Precautions

This medicine is used for the treatment of Alzheimer-type dementia symptoms with Donepezil Hydrochloride as its main ingredient. Do not take this drug if you are allergic to Donepezil Hydrochloride or any other components of this drug, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, individuals with lactose intolerance or specific genetic lactose degradation disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease or conduction disorders should be cautious, as this drug can slow heart rate or cause arrhythmia. If you are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or have a history of peptic ulcers, this medication may exacerbate symptoms by promoting gastric acid secretion. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should also use this drug cautiously as symptoms may worsen. This drug may affect the central nervous system, leading to various neuropsychiatric adverse reactions such as hallucinations, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, and dizziness. Digestive system reactions like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite are common, as well as reports of liver dysfunction and serious heart issues. During treatment, serious side effects like heart rhythm disturbances, myocardial infarction, hepatitis, cerebrovascular disorders, and extrapyramidal disorders may occur; consult medical personnel immediately if symptoms arise. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is needed, especially with drugs affecting CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 enzymes, anticholinergic medications, antiarrhythmics, antidepressants, and antibiotics. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should generally avoid this medication, and if required, they must consult a doctor. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, so it should not be used in children. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, and respiratory depression may arise; visit a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment.
