Improvement of bleeding tendency due to systemic and local fibrinolytic hyperactivity
This medication is used to treat bleeding tendencies related to systemic or local fibrinolytic hyperactivity. Systemic bleeding tendencies include leukemia, aplastic anemia, purpura, cancer, and abnormal bleeding during or after surgery. Local bleeding includes pulmonary hemorrhage, genital bleeding, renal bleeding, and abnormal bleeding during or after prostate surgery. This medication effectively improves various bleeding symptoms, helping to stabilize the patient's condition.
As tranexamic acid, the usual adult dosage is 750 to 2000 mg per day, divided into 3 to 4 oral doses. Adjustments may be made based on age and symptoms.
This medication contains tranexamic acid, which is used to stop bleeding. Firstly, this medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are already receiving thrombin, patients with severe renal failure with very poor kidney function, and those allergic to this medication or its ingredients. Additionally, patients with active thromboembolic disease should also avoid using this medication. It should be used cautiously in patients with thrombosis or those at risk of thrombus formation. For instance, patients with cerebral thrombosis, myocardial infarction, venous thrombosis, or patients who lie in bed for an extended period after surgery may be at increased risk for thrombosis and need careful monitoring. Patients with impaired renal function should also be cautious as drug concentrations may increase in the bloodstream. This medication contains a pigment called Yellow 5, which may cause allergic reactions or hypersensitivity in affected individuals. While taking this medication, rare adverse reactions such as shock, itching, and rashes may occur, and if any abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Additionally, temporary visual disturbances may occur, along with gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn. Rarely, drowsiness, headaches, and thrombosis have also been reported. During long-term use, it is advisable to regularly check for eye health and liver function. If any abnormal uterine bleeding occurs, this medication should not be used, and the cause of the bleeding should be established first. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is important to consult a physician, especially when used in conjunction with medications affecting blood coagulation. The risk of thrombosis may increase with hormonal contraceptives, so non-hormonal contraception is recommended. During pregnancy, it should be used with caution as it crosses the placenta, and although a small amount is transferred to breast milk during lactation, it is believed to have little effect on the infant. There is limited experience in children, particularly those under 15 years old, so caution is necessary. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to decreased body function. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and hypotension may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. Sufficient fluid intake and, if necessary, gastric lavage or drug administration should be utilized to help eliminate the medication. Finally, in animal studies, long-term substantial doses have been associated with changes to the retinal health of the eye, so caution is necessary for prolonged use.
