This medicine helps improve symptoms related to vitamin D metabolism abnormalities, such as hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and bone changes. It is also used in conditions such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, or osteomalacia. Additionally, it is effective in treating osteoporosis. In summary, it is used to improve various symptoms and bone health issues caused by vitamin D metabolism abnormalities.

How to take

Adult dose

Chronic renal failure and osteoporosis: Administer 0.5–1 µg of alfacalcidol once daily orally. Hypoparathyroidism and other conditions related to vitamin D metabolism abnormalities: Administer 1–4 µg of this medicine once daily orally.

Child dose

Osteoporosis: Administer 0.01–0.03 µg of alfacalcidol per kg of body weight once daily orally. Other conditions: Administer 0.05–0.1 µg of this medicine per kg of body weight once daily orally.

Precautions

This medicine should not be taken by individuals with certain conditions such as hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypermagnesemia. Additionally, it should be avoided in cases where the product of calcium and phosphate in the blood exceeds a certain value or in cases of alkalosis. Individuals suspecting vitamin D toxicity or those with allergies to ingredients contained in this medication should also refrain from taking it. While taking this medicine, it is important not to take it concurrently with magnesium-containing preparations, vitamin D and its derivatives, calcium-containing preparations, or certain diuretics. Concurrent use with these medications increases the likelihood of side effects such as hypercalcemia or hypermagnesemia. Children, the elderly, patients taking certain medications, and those with kidney stones or sarcoidosis must consult a healthcare professional before taking this medicine. While taking this medicine, symptoms related to hypercalcemia, such as gastrointestinal disturbances, neurological symptoms, heart issues, kidney function decline, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, eye problems, and skeletal pain may occur. Drug interactions
