Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections
This medicine is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections, specifically primary and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores.
Apply this medication to the affected area approximately every 4 hours for a total of 5 times a day. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if the condition has not improved after 5 days, it may be used for an additional 5 days.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, patients who are allergic to this drug or its components or have difficulty tolerating it chemically should not use this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to breastfeeding women and children. Patients with weakened immunity, such as those with AIDS or bone marrow transplant patients, should exercise extra caution when using this drug. This drug contains an ingredient called propylene glycol, so patients who have experienced allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to this ingredient must use it with care. There may be side effects when using this medication. In particular, if there are ulcers in the genital area, applying the drug may cause pain or discomfort. Additionally, various skin reactions may occur, including mild pain, dermatitis, rashes, itching, skin irritation, swelling, and skin discoloration. Care should be taken as the skin may become dry and flake off. It is best to start treatment as soon as symptoms first appear, and early treatment is recommended in cases of recurrence. The prescribed dosage and duration of administration must be strictly adhered to, and this medication should not be used by those without symptoms. This medication is not intended for infection prevention or recurrence prevention. Furthermore, this medication should not be diluted or mixed with other medications. There are no known interactions between this drug and other medications, but caution should be exercised as blood concentration may change in some cases. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this drug. Some abnormalities have been reported in animal studies, and it is advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication, as it can be transmitted to the baby through breast milk. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently confirmed in children, so usage should be avoided. This medication should only be used externally and should not be applied to mucosal areas such as the eyes, mouth, or vagina. Caution should be taken as irritation may occur if it comes into contact with mucous membranes. Additionally, it is safe to apply while wearing gloves or rubber gloves to prevent the drug from spreading to other parts of the body or infecting others.
