Improvement of essential hypertension and dyslipidemia
This medicine is used for patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure alone with amlodipine or valsartan. It also applies to patients with a high risk of cardiovascular disease or requiring treatment for dyslipidemia. The atorvastatin component helps reduce the risk of recurrence after myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular surgery, and is also used to improve hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. Therefore, this medicine is used as a suitable treatment for patients with combined cardiovascular disease risk and management of blood pressure and lipids.
This medicine is taken once daily with water. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 80 mg, a dosage of 5/80 mg is administered. 5/160 mg is for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 160 mg monotherapy.
This medicine can cause severe harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. If muscle-related symptoms, such as muscle pain or weakness, occur, the medicine should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Patients with severely impaired liver function or significantly decreased kidney function should avoid using this medication as it may be dangerous. Patients with allergies to the components of this drug or with certain genetic diseases should avoid taking it. Patients with low sodium or water levels in the body should improve their condition before taking this medicine and should closely monitor blood pressure and symptoms during treatment. This medicine can increase potassium levels in the blood, so if taken with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium levels should be checked frequently. Special care is needed when taking this medicine for heart disease patients, such as those with heart failure or after a myocardial infarction, and it should be used cautiously according to the doctor's instructions. Patients must undergo regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests while on this medicine, and report any unusual symptoms to healthcare providers immediately. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur. This medicine may interact with other drugs, so if currently taking other medications, healthcare providers must be informed, especially about concurrent use of certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals. This medicine is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and it should be avoided during breastfeeding. The atorvastatin component can affect liver function; therefore, patients with a history of liver disease should use it even more cautiously, and should stop taking it immediately if symptoms of hepatitis appear. While taking this medicine, if symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, or fever occur, consult a doctor immediately, as these symptoms can indicate rare but serious muscle damage. Taking this medicine with certain foods, such as grapefruit juice, can alter the drug concentration, so it is advisable to limit grapefruit juice intake. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medicine and should use appropriate contraceptive methods.
