View approved original text

This medication is used to assist in the control of blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or, if prior experience with diabetes medications exists or alone therapy is ineffective, it may be combined with metformin. Additionally, when monotherapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin does not provide sufficient efficacy, this medication can be combined with these. Furthermore, if adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with combination therapy, this medication may be added to improve therapeutic outcomes. Therefore, this medication is effectively used in conjunction with dietary and exercise management to assist in blood sugar control.
