Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • blood glucose control abnormalities
View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to effectively control blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone if blood glucose control is manageable; however, it may be combined with metformin if there is no prior experience with diabetes pharmacotherapy or if monotherapy is insufficient. Additionally, if blood glucose control is inadequate with sulfonylurea, thiazolidinedione, or insulin monotherapy or in combination with metformin, this drug is added to assist with blood glucose management. Thus, it can be used either alone or in combination depending on the patient's situation for efficient blood glucose control.
