Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy to help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar. It may be administered alone or combined with other diabetes medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, or sitagliptin to enhance efficacy, particularly in cases where prior medication treatment has not been effective, or blood sugar is not sufficiently controlled with a single agent. It assists in smoothly managing blood sugar control by combining various treatment methods. Therefore, this medication is effectively used for blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes.
The recommended dosage for this medication for both monotherapy and additional therapy with insulin or other blood sugar-lowering agents is 10 mg once daily. For initial combination therapy, in cases where there is no prior experience with diabetes medication, a dose of 5 mg or 10 mg once daily is prescribed when used in conjunction with metformin. This medication can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of food intake, and the tablet should be swallowed whole. Renal impairment
This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, it should not be administered to patients allergic to any component or additive of this medication. Moreover, it is unsuitable for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with genetic lactose intolerance should also not take this medication. It is not recommended for patients undergoing dialysis. Caution should be exercised in patients with low fluid volume or poor kidney function. This medication may lower blood pressure or impact kidney function, so fluid status and kidney function should be carefully checked before administration. Special attention is warranted in elderly patients or those taking diuretics due to the increased risk of hypotension. This medication contains two colorants, Yellow No. 4 and Yellow No. 5, which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, so caution is advised. When taking this medication, genital infections and urinary tract infections may occur; consult a doctor immediately if any infection symptoms develop. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may also occur when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, requiring special caution. Dehydration or hypotension symptoms related to reduced fluid volume have also been reported; inform your healthcare provider if you experience dizziness or dry mouth. Severe metabolic abnormalities such as diabetic ketoacidosis may occur, so seek immediate treatment if symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, or shortness of breath arise. This medication may affect kidney function, requiring periodic check-ups for patients with renal impairment. Rare but serious infections like perineal gangrene have been reported; visit a hospital immediately if you experience pain, swelling, or fever in that area. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should ideally avoid this medication, and intake should be discontinued if pregnancy is confirmed. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so its use is not recommended. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery while taking this medication, especially in cases of hypoglycemia risk. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to maintain quality.
