This medication is used in combination with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in conjunction with other medications and effectively aids in blood sugar management.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg, either as monotherapy or in combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken without regard to meals. Dosage adjustment for patients with renal impairment: - Mild renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate 60–90 mL/min/1.73 m2): No dosage adjustment necessary. - Moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate 45–60 mL/min/1.73 m2): No dosage adjustment necessary. - Moderate

Precautions

This medication can cause severe allergic reactions during use; if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Inflammation of the pancreas may occur while taking this medication; if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea develop, inform medical personnel immediately. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not take this medication, and it should not be used if there is an allergy to this drug or its ingredients. Patients with reduced kidney function require dosage adjustments; thus, kidney function tests should be performed before use and the medication should be taken following a doctor's instructions. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when taking this medication, so if used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar should be monitored frequently, and measures should be taken if hypoglycemic symptoms occur. If severe joint pain or skin blistering occurs, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a specialist. This medication is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, and its safety and efficacy in children under 18 years of age have not been established. Elderly patients may experience reduced kidney function, thus kidney function should be assessed before starting this medication, and periodic testing during treatment is necessary. In the case of overdose, gastrointestinal decontamination and clinical monitoring including electrocardiography should be conducted, and if necessary, some drug elimination can be achieved through hemodialysis. This medication has a low potential for drug interactions when used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents; however, caution is required when used with specific drugs, and consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advised.
