This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to increase HDL cholesterol. In particular, careful consideration of various risk factors is required when administrating lipid-modifying drugs to patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. The medication should be used along with a diet that restricts saturated fat and cholesterol intake, and it should be administered when dietary measures alone do not provide adequate effect. Prior to administration, secondary causes of dyslipidemia should be identified and treated if necessary, and tests for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides are mandatory. Follow-up tests should be conducted, and lipid levels should be checked during appropriate times, such as hospitalization for acute coronary events, to inform an appropriate treatment plan. This medication is used to improve lipid levels and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
