Improvement of hypercholesterolemia (primary and mixed) and inhibition of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease
This medication is used to lower high total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia while increasing good HDL cholesterol. It mainly serves as an adjunct to dietary therapy that limits the intake of saturated fats and cholesterol. This medication is used for patients who are at high risk of vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and is administered when sufficient effects are not observed from dietary modifications and non-pharmacological treatments. It is important to identify and manage other causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism before starting treatment. Lipid levels in the blood should be regularly tested to evaluate treatment outcomes. This medication is effective in improving vascular health due to dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, it is administered in the range of 10/5mg to 10/20mg daily, with an initial recommended dose of 10/5mg. If greater LDL cholesterol reduction is required, the dosage can be adjusted to a maximum of 10/20mg daily. After initiation or dosage adjustment, lipid levels should be monitored at intervals of more than 4 weeks.
This medication carries a risk of muscle-related issues, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, patients should consult a doctor immediately. Especially in cases of serious infections, hypotension, significant surgeries or trauma, or severe metabolic disturbances, the use of this medication should be temporarily halted or discontinued. This medication should not be used in patients with known allergies to it or with liver disease, muscle disorders, or severe kidney impairment. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and those who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with poor liver function or those who are alcohol-dependent, as well as elderly patients, those with a history of thyroid dysfunction, or muscle disorders should use this medication cautiously. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. During treatment, liver function and muscle condition must be regularly monitored for abnormalities, and if liver enzyme levels rise significantly, the medication should be discontinued. This medication can interact with other drugs, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist of any current medications. Patients should be cautious when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur. In the event of severe skin reactions or symptoms of severe muscle weakness, the medication should be stopped immediately and consult healthcare personnel. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This medication is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should also use this medication with caution. During the administration of this medication, it is essential to continue with regular check-ups and observation of symptoms for safe treatment.
