Improvement of hypercholesterolemia (primary and mixed) and reduction of the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is primarily used in conjunction with dietary therapy and is administered as an adjunctive treatment when dietary changes alone are insufficient. Prior to taking this medication, other causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary. Regular lipid tests will monitor treatment progress, and it is important to rapidly check lipid levels during acute coronary events. This approach is effective in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases due to hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This medication should be taken once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, an initial dose of 10/5 mg per day is recommended, and the dose can be adjusted between 10/5 mg and 10/20 mg per day as needed. After starting treatment or adjusting the dose, blood lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 4 weeks for further dose adjustments. The maximum daily dose may be increased to 10/20 mg.
This medication is used to inhibit cholesterol production in the liver and lower blood cholesterol levels. However, during treatment, muscle-related symptoms such as muscle pain, cramps, or weakness may occur, and if these symptoms appear, the physician should be notified immediately. Particularly, in conditions with a high risk of muscle damage such as acute infections, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or severe endocrine diseases, the use of this medication may need to be temporarily stopped or discontinued. This medication should not be given to patients with poor liver function, severely impaired kidney function, or muscle diseases, and should not be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Also, since this medication contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance should not use it. Caution is advised when administering this medication to alcoholics, patients with a history of liver disease, the elderly, or patients with hypothyroidism, and regular checks of liver function and muscle-related tests are important. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform the physician or pharmacist if the patient is taking cyclosporine, fibrates, certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals. Women of childbearing potential should practice appropriate contraception during treatment, and medication should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Safety in children and adolescents has not been sufficiently established and is therefore not recommended. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and immediate hospital treatment should be sought based on symptoms, along with checks of liver function and muscle enzyme levels. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and caution should be exercised as transferring it to another container may change its quality.
