View approved original text

This medication is used to improve various lipid levels associated with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in patients with heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia. Specifically, it helps reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of vascular disease. This medication is used in conjunction with a diet that limits saturated fats and cholesterol, and is administered as an adjunct when non-drug treatment is insufficient. Before treatment, it is essential to identify diseases that may cause dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, and to treat them concurrently if necessary. Additionally, blood lipid level tests are crucial to accurately assess the patient's condition, and rapid testing should occur during acute coronary events to initiate appropriate treatment. In summary, this medication improves blood lipids in patients with dyslipidemia, thereby aiding in the prevention of atherosclerotic vascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosing range is between 10/5 mg and 10/20 mg daily, with an initial recommended dose of 10/5 mg daily. The dosage can be adjusted for patients requiring more significant reductions in LDL cholesterol. Precautions

This medication carries a risk of muscle problems, so if sudden muscle pain or weakness occurs, it must be reported to a physician immediately. Patients at risk of renal function deterioration due to serious infections, major surgeries, or significant injuries may need to temporarily discontinue this medication. Patients with poor liver function or active liver disease should not use this medication. Additionally, individuals allergic to any of the components of this medication, those with severe renal dysfunction, pregnant or possibly pregnant women, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Caution is required for patients with a history of muscle-related diseases such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, those with hypothyroidism or a family history of muscle disorders, alcoholics, and when combined with certain medications, and should be taken as directed by a physician. This medication may elevate liver enzyme levels, so regular liver function tests before and during treatment are important. If symptoms of liver dysfunction appear, medical personnel must be informed immediately. During treatment with this medication, alcohol intake should be avoided, and care should be taken regarding interactions with other drugs that may affect liver health. Caution is especially necessary when combined with certain antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and some anticoagulants. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and fertile women should use appropriate birth control while taking it. Nursing mothers are also advised to avoid taking this medication. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents, especially children under 10 years old, as its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established. Elderly patients (65 years and older) are at increased risk of muscle adverse reactions, so caution is advised during use, and patients with reduced renal function should take it carefully under physician guidance. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and liver function and muscle enzyme tests should be monitored. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container. Additionally, be cautious of symptoms such as dizziness when driving or operating machinery.
