This medication helps control cholesterol and fat levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It particularly lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels, which is known as 'good' cholesterol. This medication is used in conjunction with dietary therapy when dietary control alone is insufficient. It also plays a significant role in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease associated with hypercholesterolemia. Prior to medication administration, it is essential to identify any other causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes or hypothyroidism and treat them if necessary. This medication is used to safely and effectively improve blood lipid status.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/5 mg to 10/20 mg per day. A starting dose of 10/5 mg daily is recommended. The dose may be adjusted as necessary, with a maximum of 10/20 mg daily. Precautions

This medication may cause rhabdomyolysis, a rare but serious side effect that can lead to severe muscle problems; therefore, if serious muscle pain or weakness occurs, the patient should immediately inform their doctor. Patients at higher risk for muscle injury, such as those with severe infections, hypotension, major surgery, trauma, or electrolyte abnormalities, may need to temporarily discontinue or stop using this medication. It should not be administered to patients with certain diseases or drug allergies, liver disease, severe renal impairment, muscular disorders, or to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Moreover, high doses of this medication are prohibited for patients with a history of muscle disease, hypothyroidism, alcohol addiction, or certain ethnicities (Asian descent) that are at a high risk of muscle injury. This medication contains lactose and should not be given to patients with lactose intolerance. Patients who are alcoholics or have liver dysfunction must use this medication with caution and should undergo regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests. During treatment, if symptoms such as muscle pain, cramps, weakness, fatigue, fever, etc., occur, the patient must notify healthcare professionals immediately. If blood tests are necessary, they should check for signs of muscle damage. Liver enzyme levels may rise; therefore, liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment to catch any liver damage signs early. This medication should not be administered to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception while taking this medication. The administration of this medication is restricted in children and the elderly, especially the elderly, as they are at higher risk for myopathy; hence caution is needed. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is important to consult with healthcare professionals, especially when taken with cyclosporine, fibrate drugs, or warfarin. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment and management through liver and muscle-related tests are necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to another container.
