Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It is contraindicated in those with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients, as well as in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, and those undergoing dialysis. Use with caution in patients with low fluid volume or impaired kidney function. This medication can cause low blood pressure or temporary worsening of kidney function; therefore, fluid status and kidney function should be checked prior to treatment and continuously monitored thereafter. Blood glucose control may vary with kidney function; therefore, it is not recommended for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. This medication can increase the risk of infections such as genital infections and urinary tract infections, especially in women or those with a history of infections. Additionally, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in conjunction with medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas, requiring dosage adjustments for these medications. Dehydration or hypotension symptoms may occur due to decreased fluid volume, so if symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. Rarely, this medication can cause severe infections such as Fournier's gangrene. Therefore, seek immediate treatment if you experience pain, swelling, or redness around the genital area. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and treatment should be discontinued if pregnancy is confirmed. Elderly individuals or those with impaired kidney function have an increased risk of side effects from this medication and require careful observation and management. This medication does not significantly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery, but caution is needed when used in combination with medications that have a risk of hypoglycemia. Finally, the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in pediatric patients, so it is preferable not to use it in children.
