Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, or if sufficient blood sugar control is difficult, it may be used in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, sitagliptin, etc. Such combination therapy is effective in cases where blood sugar is not controlled with multiple drug treatments. This medication stabilizes blood sugar levels and helps improve diabetes management.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 10 mg once daily for both monotherapy and additional combination therapy with insulin or other glucose-lowering agents. This medication can be taken at any time of the day orally regardless of food intake, and the tablets should be swallowed whole.
The efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in children under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to the components or excipients of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, and those with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should not use it. Additionally, patients undergoing dialysis should not take this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with reduced fluid volume or poor kidney function, as it may lower blood pressure or temporarily alter blood creatinine levels, putting stress on the kidneys. Special caution is required for the elderly or those taking diuretics, and fluid status and kidney function should be carefully monitored before and after administration. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. Commonly, genital infections, urinary tract infections, hypoglycemia, reduced fluid volume, and diabetic ketoacidosis may occur. Genital and urinary tract infections may occur more frequently in women, and treatment is required immediately upon symptom onset. Hypoglycemia may occur more frequently when used with medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas, so caution is advised. This medication is not recommended for patients with severely impaired liver function, and those at risk of fluid volume reduction or hypotension should be particularly cautious. Additionally, serious metabolic disturbances such as ketoacidosis may occur, necessitating immediate consultation with a healthcare provider if symptoms arise. This medication may interact with other drugs, so those taking diuretics, insulin, or sulfonylureas should consult their doctor. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication. Regular blood sugar tests and kidney function tests are needed during treatment, as this medication can affect blood sugar control. Although it does not significantly impact driving or operating machinery, caution should be taken for potential hypoglycemic symptoms. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is not to be used in this population. In case of overdose, contact a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment, as this medication may not be rapidly eliminated and may require professional management. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container for safety.
