Thioctic acid helps in the recovery from physical fatigue during intense physical labor and is used in the treatment of subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis, such as Leigh syndrome. It also helps with toxic inner ear hearing loss caused by streptomycin or gentamicin, as well as occupational noise-induced inner ear hearing loss. However, if no effect is observed after about one month of administration, it is advisable to discontinue use. Based on this efficacy, thioctic acid is used in the treatment of related diseases.
