Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as a monotherapy, and if blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy, it can be used in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, or these medications. Additionally, this medication can be added to enhance the effect in patients who have difficulty controlling blood sugar with existing therapies. This medication is effective in supporting blood sugar control in various combination therapy situations; thus, it is very useful in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 5mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.
This medicine should not be used in individuals who have allergic reactions to its active ingredient or other components. This medication should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. When used with other drugs that can cause hypoglycemia, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so caution is warranted. In particular, when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, the possibility of hypoglycemia may increase, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Experience with this medication in patients with heart failure is limited, so it should be used cautiously. There is a possibility of acute pancreatitis occurring during the administration of this medication; therefore, if symptoms of pancreatitis such as severe abdominal pain appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. A skin condition known as bullous pemphigoid may occur; if blisters or sores appear on the skin, the doctor should be informed immediately, and this medication should be discontinued. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may frequently occur during the use of this medication, hence symptoms should be closely monitored, and appropriate actions should be taken if needed. Clinical trial results indicate that this medication has been safely used in most patients, although rare adverse reactions such as skin rashes, gastrointestinal disturbances, and arthralgia have been reported. This medication is not recommended for use in pregnant women, and caution is advised for nursing women. Safety and efficacy in children under 10 years have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this age group. It can be used in the elderly without special dose adjustments, and patients with decreased kidney or liver function can also be administered without dose adjustments. In case of overdose, as there are no specific antidotes, general supportive treatment such as removing remaining medication from the gastrointestinal tract and observing symptoms should be carried out. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container.
