This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of spinal fractures. However, efficacy for non-spinal fractures has not yet been established, so please take note of this. Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak and can fracture easily, hence this medication can help in managing the risk of spinal fractures and maintaining bone health.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once a day, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should only be used by postmenopausal women and should not be administered to premenopausal women or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication may increase the risk of thrombosis, thus it is advisable for women with a history of thrombosis or at high risk for thrombosis to avoid use. If you are in a condition where you cannot move for a long period, such as recovery after surgery or a prolonged bed rest, this medication should be temporarily discontinued until the patient can move again. During long travels while taking this medication, it is important to regularly move to aid in blood circulation. This medication does not thicken or proliferate the endometrium, but if uterine bleeding occurs during use, you must seek medical attention. Breast cancer patients or those with a history of breast cancer should preferably not use this medication for prevention or treatment purposes. Patients with certain genetic disorders, high calcium levels, or kidney stones should also refrain from taking this medication. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia, renal or liver dysfunction, movement restrictions, or taking specific medications should use this medication with caution and according to the physician's instructions. This medication may cause drowsiness or visual disturbances, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. Patients at high risk of vitamin D deficiency or with insufficient calcium intake may require additional supplementation. In case of overdose, treatment should be symptom-based, especially as excessive vitamin D intake can elevate serum calcium levels and cause various symptoms, thus caution is necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should be stored sealed in its original container.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, and the temperature should be maintained between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Storing it this way will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication for a longer duration.
