Additionally, it promotes the formation of bone matrix and healing during fractures, aids in the improvement of melasma, freckles, and post-inflammatory pigmentation, and is also used for photosensitive dermatitis. Overall, it is effective in improving Vitamin C deficiency and related issues.

Adult administration

As ascorbic acid, administer 50–1,000mg once daily or divided into multiple doses by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection. Adjust appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should be handled very carefully when using it in injection form, as glass fragments may become mixed in when cutting the glass container. Extra caution is especially needed when administering to children or the elderly. Patients with hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or those with certain conditions, such as hyperoxaluria, thalassemia, gout, cystinuria, G6PD deficiency, and those with kidney oxalate stones, should not use this medication. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal cramps, fatigue, facial flushing, headache, and insomnia may occur. In particular, taking over 1 gram per day can increase the risk of diarrhea and kidney stones, and taking more than 600 milligrams can result in diuretic effects. Patients with G6PD deficiency may experience hemolytic symptoms, so caution is advised. Excessive intake can form stones in the urinary tract, therefore, appropriate dosing must be followed. This medication is mainly taken orally, but in cases where oral intake is difficult or in acute situations, it is administered by injection. Care must be taken when used with other drugs as interactions may occur, especially with salicylates, aspirin, smoking, alcohol, iron supplements, some anticonvulsants, oral contraceptives, and tetracycline antibiotics. During pregnancy, its effects on the fetus are unclear, so it should be administered only when necessary, avoiding high doses. This medication is also transmitted through breast milk, but is known to be safe for the baby at regular doses. Inform your doctor before any urine or stool tests, as this medication can affect test results. If symptoms of overdose like diarrhea and kidney stones occur, discontinue use immediately and seek appropriate treatment. When administering by injection, inject slowly to reduce pain or vascular irritation at the injection site, and change the injection site for repeated administrations. Store this medication away from direct sunlight in a dry place out of reach of children, and it is safest to keep it in the original container.
