Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used alongside dietary management and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone for initial treatment, and if blood sugar control is insufficient, it can be combined with other diabetic medications like Metformin. Additionally, it can be used in combination with various monotherapy or combination treatments that are ineffective in controlling blood sugar. This flexible approach allows for stepwise treatment to improve blood sugar management.
For monotherapy or combination therapy, the recommended dose is 100 mg once daily, with a maximum daily dosage of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. In patients with renal impairment, dose adjustments may be necessary based on kidney function. 1. Mild renal impairment (eGFR 60 to <90) : No dose adjustment necessary 2. Moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45 to <60) : No dose adjustment necessary 3. Moderate
This medication may cause allergic reactions. If symptoms such as a skin rash, difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. During treatment with this medication, there may be occurrences of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea appear, notify a healthcare professional immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it should not be taken by patients who are allergic to this medication or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience slower excretion of the medication, so the dose should be adjusted according to a physician's instructions, and regular kidney function tests are important. While taking this medication, side effects such as upper respiratory infections, headache, pharyngitis, diarrhea, and nausea may occur; if symptoms persist or worsen, consult a physician. Especially when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be regularly monitored and dose adjustments should be made according to a physician's directions as needed. Rare side effects like severe joint pain or bullous pemphigoid, which may present as blisters on the skin, have been reported; if these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and notify healthcare personnel. It is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and safety and efficacy have not been established in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In the case of overdose, general treatment should be provided to remove the drug from the gastrointestinal tract and monitor the electrocardiogram; some drugs may be removed through hemodialysis if necessary. This medication generally has low interactions with other drugs, but if taken with cyclosporine or digoxin, appropriate monitoring in consultation with healthcare professionals is required. Elderly patients may have a decline in kidney function, so dose adjustments and monitoring of kidney function are important, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, they should notify healthcare personnel immediately.
