This medication is used in combination with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may be initiated as monotherapy, but for patients who have not previously taken diabetes medication, it can be used in combination with metformin. Additionally, if blood sugar control is challenging with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medication can be added to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. If blood sugar control remains insufficient even after the combination of various medications, this medication is added for improvement. It is a medication that effectively helps manage blood sugar in type 2 diabetes through various therapeutic combinations.

How to take

Adult dose

In monotherapy or combination therapy, this medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or lips occur within 3 months of the initial dose, use should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. As there have been reports of severe side effects causing inflammation of the pancreas, known as acute pancreatitis, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting arise during treatment, immediate medical attention should be sought. Patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those who have a hypersensitivity to this medication or its components should not take this medication. Patients with reduced kidney function need to adjust the dosage of this medication, so renal function tests should be performed, and it should be taken as directed by a physician. During treatment, symptoms resembling a cold, headaches, indigestion, diarrhea, etc., may occur; if symptoms are severe, patients should inform their doctor. When taken with other hypoglycemic agents, especially insulin or sulfonylureas, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be regularly monitored, and dosage adjustments should be discussed with a physician if necessary. While taking this medication, symptoms such as joint pain or the formation of blisters on the skin may occur. If these symptoms arise, notify a doctor immediately and discontinue use if necessary. Pregnant or lactating women are advised not to take this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may have impaired kidney function, so assessment of kidney function before taking this medication is required, and regular monitoring is necessary. In case of overdose, measures should be taken to remove the drug from the gastrointestinal tract, clinical monitoring, including an electrocardiogram, should be conducted, and hemodialysis may be considered if necessary. This medication has relatively few drug interactions, but caution should be taken when using digoxin concurrently.
