Child dose
There is no experience using this medication in children and adolescents (under 18 years old), so the losartan-hydrochlorothiazide combination should not be administered to this population.

This medication is used for the treatment of patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The usual adult dosage is 50 mg of losartan potassium/12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily with one tablet. Dosages exceeding 100 mg of losartan potassium/25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide in a day are not desirable. For patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with losartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy, treatment with losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily with one tablet is recommended.

Child dose

There is no experience using this medication in children and adolescents (under 18 years old), so the losartan-hydrochlorothiazide combination should not be administered to this population.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, and should be stopped immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with an allergy to this medication or its components, those with severely compromised kidney function, problems with the liver or biliary tract, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant should not take this medication. Those with certain conditions such as hypotension, kidney disease, liver disease, cerebrovascular disorders, and hyperkalemia should use this drug cautiously, and elderly patients should take care as well. When taking this medication, it is important to regularly check blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels to ensure there are no abnormalities. Side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, skin rash, cough, indigestion, muscle pain, and anxiety may occur, and if symptoms are severe, a consultation with a physician should be made. This medication can increase potassium levels, so it is important not to take potassium supplements or potassium-containing alternative salts without consulting a physician. Additionally, excessive sun exposure can increase the risk of skin cancer, so patients should take care of sun protection and report any new skin lesions immediately to a doctor. This drug may interact with other antihypertensive medications, diuretics, and antidiabetic agents, so any other medications being taken should be reported. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. The safety of this medication has not been established for children and adolescents, hence it is not used in this population. This medication should be stored in its original container and kept out of reach of children, and dosing should be strictly followed as directed by a physician.
