View approved original text

This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes who are adhering to dietary and exercise regimens. It can be administered alone and can be used in combination with metformin when blood sugar control is difficult to achieve with monotherapy in cases with no prior experience with diabetes medications. Additionally, it can be used in combination with existing therapies like sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, and insulin when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved. This medication helps manage blood sugar effectively in conjunction with other medications. Therefore, it is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

This medication should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and use should be avoided in those with allergies to this medication or its components. Patients with decreased renal function should adjust the dosage of this medication according to their physician's instructions, and regular monitoring of renal function is important. While taking this medication, side effects such as cold symptoms, headaches, and digestive disorders may occur, particularly if taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas where hypoglycemia may occur more frequently.
