Effectiveness in treating hypertension and hypercholesterolemia and reducing cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used for patients who require concomitant treatment with olmesartan medoxomil and rosuvastatin. Olmesartan medoxomil is primarily used for the treatment of essential hypertension and is effective in lowering blood pressure. Rosuvastatin is used as an adjunct to dietary treatment for lipid disorders, such as hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It also helps to lower total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol in patients at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and reducing the risks associated with stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization. Therefore, this medication is used to manage hypertension and dyslipidemia simultaneously, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improving health.
Olmesartan medoxomil: The recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, taken regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 40 mg per day. The antihypertensive effect typically appears within 2 weeks of treatment initiation, reaching its peak effect at around 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, it may be administered in combination with a thiazide diuretic.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; hence, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be administered to individuals with a known allergy to this medication or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, patients undergoing renal dialysis, those with severe renal impairment, patients with severe liver dysfunction, those with biliary obstruction, and patients with muscle disorders. Caution should be taken with patients who have reduced blood volume or low sodium levels, as hypotension may occur, and their condition should be closely monitored. Patients with severe congestive heart failure, who rely on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system for kidney function, should be administered this medication with caution because changes in renal function may occur. Patients at risk of hyperkalemia should have their serum potassium levels regularly monitored. Patients with aortic or mitral stenosis, obstruction, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may experience exacerbated symptoms due to the blood pressure-lowering effect. This medication may cause muscle-related side effects such as myalgia, myopathy, and rarely, rhabdomyolysis; therefore, patients should consult a physician if they experience severe muscle pain or weakness. Those with a history of alcohol consumption or liver disease should regularly undergo liver function tests as liver dysfunction may occur. During treatment, caution is advised regarding activities such as driving or operating machinery due to the risk of dizziness and other side effects. Additionally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform healthcare professionals of any other medications they are taking. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant must consult with healthcare professionals regarding appropriate contraceptive methods, and those who are breastfeeding should also avoid using this medication. Elderly patients or those with impaired renal function require dosage adjustments and monitoring for side effects. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and palpitations may occur, so patients should report any abnormal symptoms immediately to their healthcare providers. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children; therefore, it should not be used in pediatric populations.
