Effectiveness in the treatment of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is prescribed for patients who require the combined use of the two components, olmesartan medoxomil and rosuvastatin. Olmesartan medoxomil is primarily used for the treatment of essential hypertension, meaning hypertension without a clear cause. Rosuvastatin is a medication that helps regulate cholesterol levels and is used as an adjunctive treatment when diet and exercise are insufficient for patients with hypercholesterolemia or mixed hyperlipidemia. Additionally, it aids in slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and improves cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular interventions in patients at high cardiovascular risk. Therefore, this medication is used to improve cardiovascular health in patients with both hypertension and hypercholesterolemia.
Olmesartan medoxomil: The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, taken regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dosage, it may be increased to 20 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 40 mg daily. For patients with renal impairment or liver impairment, dosage adjustments are necessary, but no special dosage adjustments are required for the elderly. Rosuvastatin: The initial dose is 5 mg once daily.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, so it should not be administered.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. People with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, and nursing mothers should avoid its use. Patients with severe kidney impairment or receiving kidney dialysis, severe liver disease, or biliary obstruction should not use this medication. Caution is required for patients with muscle disorders or those at high risk of muscle damage, as the likelihood of muscle-related side effects may increase when taking this medication in combination with certain drugs. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid it. Patients with excessively low blood pressure or reduced body salt or blood volume may experience hypotension symptoms shortly after initiating treatment, so their condition should be closely monitored. Patients with declining kidney function or kidney transplant recipients should periodically check their kidney function and electrolyte status through blood tests. Due to the risk of hyperkalemia, blood potassium levels should be closely monitored. This medication may affect liver function, so regular liver function tests are required for those with a history of liver disease or suspected liver dysfunction. If symptoms like muscle pain, weakness, or cramps occur while taking this medication, consulting a doctor is essential, and blood tests may be needed to check for muscle damage. Symptoms of dizziness or drowsiness may occur; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications. Elderly patients may have higher blood concentrations of this medication, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. Overdose may lead to hypotension or other symptoms; if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate medical attention is advised. Safety in children and adolescents under 18 years of age has not been established, so caution is needed in their use.
