Treatment of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia (reduction of cardiovascular disease risk, etc.)
This medication is designed for patients who require the combined use of two drugs, olmesartan medoxomil and rosuvastatin. Olmesartan medoxomil is primarily used for the treatment of essential hypertension. Meanwhile, rosuvastatin is used adjunctively when dietary measures and exercise fail to control several conditions associated with hypercholesterolemia, such as primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and familial hypercholesterolemia. It also helps to lower cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis, and aids in the treatment of patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia. Additionally, it contributes to the reduction of stroke, myocardial infarction, and artery revascularization-related risks in elderly patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. Therefore, this medication is used to improve both hypertension and hyperlipidemia while reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Olmesartan Medoxomil: The recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, without regard to meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 40 mg once daily. The antihypertensive effect typically appears within 2 weeks of initiation of therapy, with maximum effect occurring around 8 weeks. Rosuvastatin: The starting dose is 5 mg once daily, and it can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals.
