This medication is used to treat hypertension and myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina and variant angina, which occurs when the heart does not receive adequate blood supply.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended oral dosage is 2.5 mg of esamlodipine once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg daily based on the patient’s response. Adjust according to symptoms.

Precautions

It is crucial that this medication is not used in certain patients. For instance, individuals who have had allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. It should also not be administered to pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, or women who are breastfeeding. Patients in shock with severely impaired heart conditions or significant valvular heart disease should also avoid this medication. Furthermore, patients with unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, severe liver dysfunction, or hypotension should refrain from using this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and patients with moderate liver dysfunction should use this medication with caution. Patients should be aware of various side effects that may occur rarely when taking this medication. The most common side effects include flushing and heating, fatigue, swelling of the legs or ankles, palpitations, dizziness, headache, indigestion, and drowsiness. Additionally, rare side effects such as dry mouth, increased sweating, decreased blood pressure, insomnia, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, they should consult a doctor immediately. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so it should be gradually reduced under a doctor’s guidance. Patients with heart failure or poor liver function should take special care, and blood pressure should be regularly monitored to ensure it does not drop too low. It is advisable to take this medication with plenty of water, as low blood pressure may result in dizziness or fatigue. Extra caution is required when driving or engaging in hazardous tasks. Moreover, this medication may interact with various other medications, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any current medications being taken. Particularly, taking this medication with grapefruit juice may intensify its effects and is therefore not recommended. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and if breastfeeding, it is safer to discontinue breastfeeding. Use is only recommended for children aged 6 years and older, as safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6 years of age.
